Nia Education

Truly getting to know your own body is an integral part of Nia’s educational methodology. When you train in Nia you focus on your own body sensations, and gain awareness about what thoughts and ideas you have about your body. With that knowledge and awareness, you can modify Nia to give your body, mind, emotions, and spirit the best individualized workout for your needs. That’s why Nia is so powerful — it works first with Your Body’s Way and guides you into the optimal health and wellness of The Body’s Way.

The Pelvis

When you think of physical conditioning, do thoughts of weight lifting, long hours
in the gym, laps around the running track, and “No Pain No Gain” come to mind?
For most people, the word conditioning brings up such memories of Physical Education class in High School, with sit-ups, push-ups, and jumping jacks.

The Knees

In Nia class, students are known to take off knee braces used to keep their knees
stable after an injury, and say that they heal even faster because of Nia. Why is
this possible? Because Nia teaches you how to move in a functional way that
respects the design of the body.

The Shinbones

In Nia, you are taught to connect to your shinbones through Awareness, and get in touch with Sensation through the thighbones. Use the shinbones like fence posts, vertically planting them with purpose as you move. Sense the two bones of each
shin supporting the left and right sides of each foot, and the inside and the outside of each foot. Use the shins to relax your thighs above and your feet below.
